Self-criticism mechanism in Marxist–Leninist oriented organizations: the PKK case

In Marxist/Leninist oriented organizations, self-criticism mechanism is intended to rectify performance errors and correct the path towards realizing the organizational mission as it is embodied in its goals and objectives. This article focuses on the self-criticism culture within the militant ranks of the Marxist/Leninist-oriented PKK insurgent group. It explores the contexts of the self-criticism, by using empirically coded thematic analysis of primary sources, specifically, the self-critique reports written by PKK senior cadres. The main research question is designed as, “What intraorganizational problems exist in the PKK based on self-criticism reports.” The study concluded that by accessing the content of militants’ self-criticism reports, shortcomings, compilation, and tactical errors, and applicability concerns can be identified, and such information can be useful for updating the counter-terrorism strategies and tactics.
