BUILDING LOCAL SOLAR POWER IN GHANA
According to national energy data, Ghana gets over 99% of its electricity from centralized thermal power and large river dams. Even though the country has constant sunshine, grid-connected solar power makes up less than 1% (0.8%) of our electricity mix. At the same time, the national grid suffers from frequent blackouts due to overloaded transmission lines and financial liquidity challenges. This project proposes building small, local solar power networks directly adjacent to high-demand industrial cities to relieve pressure on the national grid and eliminate transmission losses.
