Ozonolysis of β-Caryophyllene in the Presence of Nanoscale Inhomogeneity: A Mass Spectrometry and Dynamic Light Scattering Study

α-HHs residing in the hydrophobic cores of the 0.8-3.0 nm nanodroplets did not undergo hydrolysis because of their isolation from the bulk water. We infer that similar nonlinear effects on water-related reactions would generally be operative in aqueous organic mixtures, including aqueous atmospheric aerosols.

Abstract

α-HHs residing in the hydrophobic cores of the 0.8-3.0 nm nanodroplets did not undergo hydrolysis because of their isolation from the bulk water. We infer that similar nonlinear effects on water-related reactions would generally be operative in aqueous organic mixtures, including aqueous atmospheric aerosols.
