Research on Wind Load Damage of Rooftop Solar Photovoltaic Panels under the Influence of Adjacent High-Rise Buildings

Abstract This study systematically investigates the impact of the layout, height, and spacing ratio of adjacent interfering buildings on the wind-induced damage to solar photovoltaic(PV) panels installed on high-rise building roofs through Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) numerical simulations. The results indicate that the layout of the interfering building significantly affects the wind load interference effect. When the interfering building is located on the side of the target building, strong vortices are easily induced, leading to extreme wind pressures on the PV panels and the highest risk of damage. In contrast, oblique layouts exhibit relatively weaker effects. Increasing the height or spacing ratio of the interfering building can effectively mitigate the adverse influence of wind loads. This research provides a theoretical basis for the wind-resistant design and safe layout of PV systems in densely built urban areas.
