A Unified Framework for Universal Approximation: From Diophantine Approximation to Arbitrarily Fast Exponential Convergence via the Metallic Family
Vera de Spinadel introduced the Metallic Means as the roots of x² - m x - 1 = 0. The present author recently established their connection to primitive Pythagorean triples, and subsequently generalized the framework into the Universal Metallic Family α(n, N) = n + √(n² + N) and the Omni-Metallic Family α_{m,r}(n, N), the unique positive root of x^m - 2n x^{m-1} - N^r = 0. We show that these families provide a unified approximation framework for every positive real constant T. For the Universal Metallic Family, there exists a metallic signature (N1, N2) such that α(p_k, N1)/α(q_k, N2) → T, with error O(q_k^{-2}), where p_k/q_k are the continued fraction convergents of T. For the Omni-Metallic Family, we prove |α_{m,m}(p_k, N1)/α_{m,m}(q_k, N2) - T| = O(q_k^{-2m}), allowing arbitrarily fast exponential approximation by choosing m. The theory rests on the Mirror Identity α_{m,r}(n, N) - N^r / α_{m,r}(n, N)^{m-1} = 2n, which generates the cancellation mechanism and the Signature Dynamics framework. The same formula structure approximates π, e, √2, ϕ, γ, ζ(3), and offers a uniform algebraic structure for all positive real numbers. This gives a natural generalization of classical continued fractions from degree 1 to degree m approximations.
