Advances in chemical recycling of plastic wastes: An overview

The present review provides an overview of plastic waste, its environmental impact, chemical recycling technologies and valorisation into carbon nanostructures, organic compounds, and construction materials, along with existing challenges. It also highlights the principal recycling methods such as thermolysis, photo-reformation, electro-reformation, and biochemical recycling. The review also discusses the potential for the conversion of PWs into carbonaceous materials, organic compounds, structural materials and their probable applications. The environmental impact and techno-economic assessment of PWs-based recycling methods are also examined, with an emphasis on circular economy, sustainability and carbon neutrality.
