Cross-Border Interaction of Russian Regions of Inner Asia with Mongolia: Current State and Prospects
The article is devoted to the study of the state and prospects of cross-border interaction of the Russian border regions with Mongolia. The discussion of current issues in Russian-Mongolian cooperation demonstrates the connection with cross-border issues, particularly with Russian regions of Inner Asia – the national republics of Buryatia, Tuva, Altai and the Trans-Baikal Territory. An overview analysis of the key areas of cross-border interaction between Russia and Mongolia is provided, concerning border territories that historically and at present perform contact and transit functions. Problematic aspects of implementing large cross-border projects related to the integration of trilateral initiatives of Russia, Mongolia and China are identified. In the context of Russian-Mongolian borderlands, the importance of taking into account the specific features of the Russian regions as elements of the northern part of Inner Asia, united by historical and ethnocultural ties, is demonstrated.
