Connecting families and science: a new model for participation in paediatric research
Patient and public involvement (PPI) has become an important component of contemporary health research. Major research funders, including the National Institute for Health and Care Research, define PPI as research conducted with or by members of the public rather than to, about, or for them. 1 This paradigm reflects increasing recognition that meaningful involvement of patients, families and communities enhances research relevance, accountability and translational impact. 2 , 3
