Recent Advances on Near‐Infrared Organic Room‐Temperature Phosphorescence for High‐Resolution Bioimaging and Biosensing

ABSTRACT Organic room‐temperature phosphorescence (RTP) materials have gained widespread focus by virtue of their unique time‐resolved emission characteristics that facilitate autofluorescence interference mitigation, along with inherent advantages of low cost, appreciable functionality, and excellent biocompatibility. Near‐infrared (NIR) organic RTP materials represent a cutting‐edge and rapidly evolving research direction, overcoming the limitations of traditional heavy metal‐based NIR phosphorescent complexes while exhibiting superior biological tissue permeability compared to visible‐range RTP materials. This review outlines the latest advances in NIR organic RTP materials, including their basic mechanisms, design considerations, and construction strategies. Promising progress in the potential applications of NIR organic RTP materials is summarized. Finally, the challenges and future perspectives are discussed to emphasize the directions that deserve focused attention in the field.
