Publishers' Contribution to Book Promotion and the Development of Reading Culture
Abstract Reading is one of the most important parts of developing individuals socially, intellectually, and educationally in any society. Books are important tools to distribute knowledge, protect culture, and provide ongoing education opportunities for everyone. Authors create intellectual works but it is the publishers who process these works to make them available to readers as usable resources of knowledge. Today publishers promote a reading culture with events like book fairs/ Literary festivals; book signings; parent-teacher meet & greets and more along with various digital campaigns but as reading habits dwindle due to electronic entertainment options and readers’ tastes change, it still provides many opportunities for connections between authors, libraries & educational institutions and readers. The research examines publisher roles and efforts towards promotion of books and culture of reading through their promotional programs, relationships with institutions, the influence of digital publishing, as well as current obstacles encountered by Publishers. The paper provides evidence indicating how; continued efforts by publishers serve to help maintain a Culture of Reading and help expand access to Knowledge in society.
