Help Me.: The Four Asks Framework for AI Adoption
Artificial intelligence (AI) adoption in organizations has accelerated rapidly, yet most frameworks guiding that adoption remain anchored in technology — in models, agents, platforms, and maturity curves that are meaningful to engineers and opaque to the leaders, managers, and employees expected to act on them. This paper proposes a different starting point: the human. Help Me. — The Four Asks Framework for AI Adoption — organizes AI adoption around four fundamental human needs that every person in every organization already understands: Help me understand. Help me think. Help me do. Help me deliver. Scaled across four levels of organizational scope — individual, team, division, and enterprise — these four asks produce a practical 4×4 map that any leader can use to prioritize AI investment, evaluate initiative readiness, and communicate impact without technical vocabulary. Critically, the framework advances a Progression Principle: the four asks build sequentially, and failure to establish the foundational asks is the most common and most underacknowledged driver of AI initiative failure. The paper concludes with implications for practitioners and researchers, and argues that a framework built on timeless human needs — not on today's technology — is a framework built to last.
