LOCATIONAL CHARACTERISTICS AND NEIGHBORHOOD ENVIRONMENT OF YOUTH APARTMENTS IN CENTRAL SHANGHAI
Amid escalating housing prices and rent burdens in megacities such as Shanghai, young people are moving from city centers to suburbs; in response, Shanghai is expanding youth-oriented housing. This study analyzes youth apartments in central Shanghai, comparing land-use zoning and nearby facility characteristics. Key findings: no clear link between sites and construction-time zoning; low facility counts limit types and basic services, while high counts cluster commercial and transport facilities, with some cases lacking parks and schools; high counts do not ensure even near- or mid-range distribution. Overall, even in central locations, facility numbers and spatial patterns remain markedly uneven.
