CULTURAL HERITAGE, TOURISM, AND INCLUSIVE ECONOMICDEVELOPMENT IN BIHAR'S KOSI REGION

The Kosi region of Bihar possesses a rich cultural heritage characterized by traditional festivals, folk arts, handicrafts, and community-based cultural practices. Despite this cultural richness, the region continues to face economic challenges due to recurrent floods, limited infrastructure, and inadequate industrial development. This study examines the relationship between cultural heritage and regional economic development in the Kosi region with a special focus on Madhepura district. The research is based on both primary and secondary data. The findings indicate that cultural activities play a significant role in income generation and employment creation in the region. The t-test results confirm that income from cultural activities is statistically significant, while ANOVA reveals variation in income across different cultural occupations. Regression analysis further shows a positive relationship between cultural participation and household income. The study concludes that cultural heritage can serve as an important driver of regional economic development if supported by appropriate infrastructure, market access, and policy initiatives. Strengthening cultural industries and promoting cultural tourism may help transform cultural resources into sustainable economic opportunities in the Kosi region.

The study concludes that cultural heritage can serve as an important driver of regional economic development if supported by appropriate infrastructure, market access, and policy initiatives. Strengthening cultural industries and promoting cultural tourism may help transform cultural resources into sustainable economic opportunities in the Kosi region.
