The Role of Abduction in Poetry
Abstract (English) This paper examines the role of Charles Sanders Peirce’s logical theory in the context of poetry. The art of poetry generates a vivid imaginative consciousness of experience or a particular emotional reaction with language, interpretation, and elements. Thus, the researcher explores the possibility of interpreting poetry by utilizing the theory of abduction as a method of criticism that demonstrates and suggests a pragmatic instrument of literary criticism. The said operation focuses on forming an explanatory hypothesis from the poetic proposition. Applying the operation of abduction in poetry can contribute to a horizon of inference in literary criticism. The logical contribution of abduction adheres to the logical reasoning scheme that involves a hypothetical account from the basis of epistemic justifications— a pragmatic inference from the poetic proposition.
