Emerging Egress: Return to Daoist Phenomenology
Phenomenology needs philosophy as much as philosophy needs phenomenology. The world needs both. Phenomenology and philosophy are always together. Furthermore, the world needs another pairing: truth and simplicity on the way to truth as simplicity. The greatest truths are the simplest (Dadao zhi jian 大道至簡) as in an old Chinese expression that literally means the great way reaches to bamboo. This article traces, highlights and leaves markers along the way of more than fifty years of my personal engagement with phenomenology and Chinese philosophy, and culminating in reflection on my book Daoist Phenomenology, A Vertical Reading. The purpose is to encourage a world interculture of thinking together.
