Avon Archaeology Limited were commissioned by Focus Consultants to undertake an archaeological desk-based assessment relating to the Old Post Office, New Bond Street, Bath, centred on ST 75052 64972. A planning application is intended to be made regarding alterations to the building for The Fashion Museum, including the installation of a new lift shaft. A search of the B&NES HER for a radius of 100m around the site was undertaken specifically for the purposes of this study, and has been included as both a map and a textual Appendix. The more relevant items are discussed in the text. This assessment has found that the archaeological potential of the site as currently proposed, is likely to be moderate to high in terms of buried and in situ archaeological assets from the Roman period onwards, particularly in the area of the former courtyard.
