Management of non-Candida albicans Invasive Candidiasis in Critical Care: A Scoping Review Protocol
This project is a scoping review protocol that aims to systematically map the existing evidence on the management of invasive candidiasis caused by non-albicans Candida species in adult intensive care unit (ICU) patients. The review will examine pharmacological treatment strategies, antifungal stewardship interventions, and reported clinical outcomes, including mortality, treatment response, antifungal resistance, and healthcare resource utilization. The review will be conducted in accordance with the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) methodology for scoping reviews and reported following the PRISMA Extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR). A comprehensive literature search will be performed across major bibliographic databases, with study selection, data extraction, and evidence mapping undertaken using predefined eligibility criteria based on the Population–Concept–Context (PCC) framework. The findings will identify the breadth of current evidence, highlight knowledge gaps, and provide a foundation for future research and clinical decision-making regarding the management of non-albicans invasive candidiasis in critically ill adult patients.
