From Symbolic Personas to an Auditable Cognitive Runtime: Patent-to-Code Traceability and Lessons in Metacontrol from the Nemosine Nous System

This preprint presents the progressive transformation of the Nemosine Nous System (NNS) from a symbolic persona-based architecture into an auditable cognitive runtime for large language model applications. The study applies a patent-to-code traceability approach to examine how architectural principles are operationalized through source modules, explicit runtime states, differentiated evaluators, bounded revision, coherence scoring, promotion control, persistent audit records, and governed response-delivery paths. The paper documents the system’s iterative development from an experimental Notion--GPT configuration to a persistent web application and subsequently to an integrated runtime with functional separation between generation, evaluation, revision, authorization, persistence, and delivery. It derives general lessons concerning executable metacontrol, decision provenance, non-bypassable promotion gates, runtime observability, and the distinction between operational introspection and full architectural self-modeling. The work is presented as a software architecture and implementation experience report. It does not attribute consciousness, biological cognition, independent agency, or unrestricted autonomy to the system.
