Is the Left/Right Political Classification Valid? A Structural Critique Through the Lens of a Three-Dimensional Cognitive Framework

The left/right political spectrum has been the dominant framework for classifying political actors for over two centuries. This paper argues that this binary classification is not merely imprecise, but structurally invalid — analogous to the pre-Copernican assumption that the Sun revolves around the Earth.Through five illustrative case studies drawn from contemporary politics (Japan, the United States, China, and Russia), the paper demonstrates three recurring failure patterns of the left/right label system. As an alternative lens, it references a three-dimensional cognitive framework (the "3D Personality Plotter") in which political behavior is analyzed across three orthogonal axes: Stance (X), Motivation (Y), and Anchor (Z). The paper concludes that the left/right classification conflates these three independent dimensions into a single axis, producing systematic misreadings of political reality.
