The Obsanga Family of Tibiao: Strong Evidence of an Old Datu or Maginoo Lineage (Part 2)
Building on colonial records examined in Part 1—from Fausto Obsanga's tax exemption in 1856 to Don Doroteo and Don Cerelo serving simultaneously as Cabeza de Barangay in 1886—a deeper story emerges. When placed in the wider historical context of Spanish rule in the Philippines, these traces strongly suggest that the Obsangas were descendants of a pre-colonial Datu or Maginoo lineage that successfully adapted to colonial administration while retaining genuine local influence in Tibiao.
