Trading Ethics for Efficiency: A Comparative Literature Review of Academic Leadership and Ethical Governance in AI Driven Academic Systems
This review examines how higher education leaders can modernize through automation while protecting students, preserving academic integrity, and maintaining institutional trust. The findings identify four leadership patterns that explain why efficiency often advances more quickly than ethical responsibility, creating risks for privacy, fairness, and accountability. The review offers guidance for leaders seeking to adopt AI responsibly while strengthening governance and trust across their institutions.
