eXtended Interactive Education (XIE): A Gamified, Psychology-Informed Pedagogical Framework for Next-Generation Learners
This paper introduces eXtended Interactive Education (XIE), a novel pedagogical framework coined and developed by Er. Harshvardhan Purohit at SIN School of AI Innovation Centers, India. XIE proposes that sustainable academic motivation and high-performance learning are not products of curriculum quality alone, but of environmental design — specifically, the deliberate integration of gamification mechanics, competitive visibility, and reward-loop psychology into educational delivery systems. The framework draws from Self-Determination Theory (SDT), operant conditioning, and social comparison theory, applied within AI and technology education programmes. A structured experimental study was conducted across two cohorts (Batch A: n=100, standard instruction; Batch B: n=100, XIE-gamified environment with live leaderboards). The experiment was replicated across ~180 students at JIET Universe, Jodhpur, Rajasthan. Findings demonstrate that the introduction of competitive visibility through a live leaderboard measurably improved student engagement, attendance, voluntary effort, and self-reported confidence. The XIE framework formalises these findings into a four-step reward loop: See the Gap, Feel the Pull, Take the Rep, and Bank the Win.
