Aloe Vera and Calcium Carbonate Nanoparticles In Situ Gel Oral Drug Delivery for Oral Submucous Fibrosis Management: A Clinical Study Insight
IntroductIonOral submucous fibrosis (OSMF) is recognized as a potentially malignant oral disorder predominantly observed in Southern and Western Asia, primarily attributed to areca nut consumption.Clinical manifestations include restricted mouth opening, frequent ulceration, diminished tongue mobility, burning sensations, and decreased cheek flexibility (CF).Numerous therapeutic modalities have been investigated; however, none have demonstrated sustained efficacy. 1Current interventions encompass corticosteroid injections, interferon-alpha (IFN-α), lycopene, vasodilators, turmeric, immune milk, and micronutrient supplementation. 2,3Ayurvedic medicine may cause side effects such as nausea, abdominal discomfort, vomiting, or allergic rash, but it can help if you experience frequent illness or slow recovery. When taken in proper doses and duration, Ayurvedic herbs can boost immunity and support the treatment of immunerelated issues.Emerging advancements in nanotechnology have introduced calcium carbonate (CaCO 3 ) nanoparticles (NPs), which exhibit enhanced bioavailability and are considered promising agents for drug delivery owing to their biocompatibility and biodegradability. These NPs are particularly suited for addressing various oral lesions.Modified calcium carbonate NPs have been evaluated for their ability to improve solubility, drug acceptability, circulatory half-life, and bio-redistribution of therapeutic agents.
