Geophysical Survey at Land west of Stourbridge Road, Catshill

This geophysical survey was completed using a Sensys FMG650/3 system. Readings were recorded at a resolution of 0.01 nT and data collected with a traverse interval of 1 m and a sample interval of between 0.16 - 0.25 m. The survey produced good data throughout and highlighted a small number of anomalies of possible archaeological origin. Both of these anomalies are located in Field 1 and are characteristic of areas of burning and tentatively could indicate former kilns or hearths, although a more recent or modern origin cannot be excluded as a possibility in either case. An anomaly corresponding to the recorded position of a former boundary first recorded on 19th century (1830s-1880s) OS maps is also noted within Field 1. This boundary is last visible on aerial imagery of the Site captured in 1945 and had been removed by the end of the 20th century. Evidence of past agricultural activity is recorded in the form of regimes of ridge and furrow present within Fields 1, 4 and 5.

This geophysical survey was completed using a Sensys FMG650/3 system.
