DR Testing Is Dead: Long Live Continuous Resilience Validation
For years, disaster-recovery testing was a periodic ritual: a scheduled weekend, an activated runbook, a controlled failover, and a checked box. This paper argues that in a cloud-first, automation-driven world the traditional DR test no longer validates resilience; it validates preparation for a single moment under controlled conditions while real failures occur continuously and unpredictably. It sets out why event-based testing is fragile, defines continuous resilience validation as an alternative that embeds readiness into everyday operations, identifies the enabling technologies, infrastructure as code, observability, automation, and chaos engineering, and presents a real practitioner evolution from twice-yearly tests to daily, metric-driven validation. A phased adoption path, the common challenges, and the business and regulatory case are provided.
