The relationship between psychological empowerment and quiet quitting: A research in the tourism sector
This research examines whether there is a significant relationship between tourism employees’ perceptions of psychological empowerment and their tendency toward quiet quitting. Within this scope, quantitative research methods were used, and data were collected from tourism sector employees via both online and face-to-face surveys. The analyses were conducted on 391 valid responses collected through convenience sampling from tourism employees working in Muğla and Antalya. According to the research results, a negative, significant relationship was found between individuals' psychological empowerment perceptions in the tourism sector and their tendencies toward quiet quitting. At the same time, significant differences were observed between the psychological empowerment perceptions and quiet quitting tendencies of employees with certain demographic characteristics. The findings contribute to the literature by providing empirical evidence on the relationship between psychological empowerment and quiet quitting in the tourism sector. In addition, the research offers practical implications for tourism managers by suggesting that strengthening employees' perceptions of meaning, competence, self-determination, and impact may help reduce quiet quitting.
