Correlation Between Total Leukocyte Count and Treatment Response in Breast Cancer Patients Under going Chemotherapy

Breast cancer remains a leading cause of cancer-related mortality among women worldwide, and chemotherapy-induced myelosuppression frequently alters hematological parameters, including the total leukocyte count (TLC). This cross-sectional study was conducted at hospitals in Lahore over three months with 85 female breast cancer patients. TLC was measured and treatment response was classified as responder or non-responder. Results showed no statistically significant difference in TLC between responders and non-responders (Mann-Whitney U=764.0, p=0.223). ROC analysis yielded AUC=0.423. Baseline TLC alone was not a reliable predictor of chemotherapy response. TLC remains useful for routine toxicity monitoring but should not be used as a standalone prognostic marker.
