Dyeing of Traditional Ehram Fabric Within the Scope of Sustainability
Cultural heritage is one of the important elements that connects the past and the future. Societies move more confidently toward the future as long as they remain firmly rooted in their cultural heritage. In this context, modernizing our cultural heritage to meet the needs of the age is also of great importance. This study aimed to color the traditional ehram fabric in a sustainable context and increase its popularity as a result. In this study, waste strawberry fruit leaves were selected as a source of natural dyes. These waste fruit leaves were dried, then ground using a grinder, and the ground parts were directly used in dyeing experiments. In addition to using 5 different mordant materials in the dyeing process, dyeing experiments were also carried out without using any mordant material. After the dyeing process was completed, the traditional ehram fabrics were washed and then dried at room temperature. Color measurement and fastness tests were also carried out on dyed and dried samples of traditional ehram fabric. As a result of these analyses, it was determined that strawberry fruit leaves, which are considered waste, can be used in dyeing traditional ehram fabric. It is believed that the results of the study will contribute to cultural heritage and revive the popularity of traditional ehram fabric.
