Infographic: efficacy and safety of intravitreal siRNA therapy for acute NAION (QRK207 trial)
Fig. 1 Full size image QPI-1007 is a short-interfering RNA molecule that inhibits the expression of caspase 2, an endopeptidase that is involved in retinal ganglion cell death [ 1 ]. This infographic summarises the design and results of the phase II/III multicentre trial, which evaluated the efficacy and safety of QPI-1007 in patients with acute non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) [ 1 ]. QPI-1007 was well-tolerated. There was no statistically significant difference between the active treatment cohorts (QPI-1007) and the sham (placebo) group in the proportion of patients who lost ≥15 ETDRS letters of BCVA at 6 months [ 1 ]. Over 30% of participants experienced vision deterioration within the first three weeks of the study (from screening day to intervention) [ 2 ]. Frequency of traditional vascular risk factors for NAION development among participants were found to be similar to that of the general population [ 3 ].
