Agrync: A modular integration layer for industrial IoT interoperability in agro-industrial environments

Real-world IoT deployments in research centers and industrial facilities are often constrained by heterogeneous industrial protocols and non-standardized data acquisition systems, increasing integration effort and limiting reproducibility. Agrync, an open-source, modular platform designed to operate at the fog layer, acts as a reusable integration layer between legacy industrial devices and modern IoT ecosystems. The platform automates device onboarding and data acquisition using industrial protocols like Modbus TCP/IP, generates OPC UA servers, and normalizes data according to the OMA NGSI model. Context information is published to the FIWARE Orion Context Broker. Agrync has been validated in a real agro-industrial research facility.
