APPLICATION OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN E-JOURNAL PUBLISHING: OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES

Purpose - This study examines the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in e-journal publishing and explores the opportunities and challenges associated with its adoption across scholarly communication processes. The paper analyzes how AI technologies influence manuscript submission, peer review, editorial decision-making, content dissemination, and research discoverability. Design/methodology/approach - The study employs a qualitative research approach based on an extensive review of scholarly literature, publishing reports, and policy documents related to artificial intelligence and academic publishing. Relevant studies were analyzed to identify key applications, benefits, and challenges associated with AI-driven publishing systems. Findings - The findings indicate that AI enhances efficiency, accuracy, scalability, and accessibility within e-journal publishing. AI-assisted manuscript screening, plagiarism detection, reviewer selection, language editing, and content recommendation systems have improved publishing workflows. However, concerns regarding algorithmic bias, transparency, data privacy, intellectual property rights, and ethical accountability remain significant challenges. Practical implications - The study provides insights for publishers, editors, researchers, and policymakers seeking to implement AI technologies responsibly within scholarly publishing environments. Effective governance and ethical guidelines are necessary to maximize benefits while minimizing risks. Originality/value - This paper contributes to the growing body of literature on AI-driven scholarly communication by examining both the opportunities and challenges associated with artificial intelligence in e-journal publishing and identifying future directions for sustainable implementation.
