Success in Dental Implant Treatment and Personality Types in Adults: A Case-Control Study

Aim To investigate the relationship between success in dental implant treatment and personality types in adults.Methodology An analytical case-control study was conducted with 54 adults, divided into 27 cases and 27 controls. Participants were evaluated using the NEO-FFI-R personality questionnaire to identify adaptive and non-adaptive traits, and clinical and radiographic criteria were employed to determine the success of dental implants. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Chi-square test, and binary logistic regression for multivariate analysis. Results Patients with adaptive personality traits showed a significantly higher success rate (67%) compared to those with non-adaptive personality traits (33%). Analysis indicated that adaptive personality traits were significantly associated with higher odds of implant success (crude OR 5.7, 95% CI: 1.8–18.5, p = 0.003). Additionally, after adjustment, age (OR = 0.1, 95% CI: 0.1–0.4, p = 0.004) and the presence of systemic diseases (OR = 0.6, 95% CI: 0.4–0.9, p = 0.042) were significantly associated with implant treatment success. Conclusion Adaptive personality traits were associated with dental implant success. Age and the absence of systemic diseases were also relevant factors, whereas sex and insertion torque were not associated. These findings highlight the importance of integrating psychological and clinical factors in implant therapy.
