PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS OF A MANUFACTURING SYSTEM USING DISCRETE-EVENT SIMULATION
ABSTRACT: Improving the performance of manufacturing systems is a major challenge for industrial companies, particularly in reducing work-in-process (WIP) levels and lead times. This paper presents a performance analysis of a manufacturing system using discrete-event simulation. A FlexSim model was developed to study the impact of inter-arrival time on system behavior. Several scenarios were analyzed using independent replications under steady-state conditions. System performance was evaluated using global Work-In-Process (WIP) and average staytime. Results show that decreasing inter-arrival time increases both WIP and staytime, indicating performance degradation under high load conditions. This study highlights discrete-event simulation as an effective decision-support tool for analyzing congestion and flow performance in serial–parallel manufacturing systems.
