The paper substantiates a thermodynamic approach to removing toxic metals and radionuclides from industrial sewage and polluted ecosystems. It addresses the increasing volume of toxicants in the environment and the need for a universal theoretical and practical basis for detoxification. The approach may support the development of treatment biotechnologies that consider chemical transformations, energetic conditions, and microbial processes.
