The paper addresses quantitative patterns in the distribution of copper-resistant microorganisms in natural ecosystems. It considers the ecological significance of microbial communities capable of tolerating toxic copper compounds and their potential role in biogeochemical processes and detoxification of polluted environments. The study is important for developing biotechnological approaches to removing heavy metals from ecosystems.
