Viscosity Correlation for Binary Mixtures of Ethyl Octanoate and n -Alcohols Using an Improved MTSM Model
The viscosities of binary mixtures of ethyl octanoate and C3/C5–C7 n -alcohols were investigated on the basis of experimental data measured with a self-designed capillary viscometer over the temperature range of 293–333 K, using four models [modified two-suffix-Margules (MTSM), nonrandom two-liquid, Frenkel, and Jouyban–Acree). The MTSM model shows better accuracy. To improve predictive accuracy, a correction term H related to equivalent molar mass was introduced, incorporating molecular weight effects. The correlation coefficient between H and the ln η is 0.95. The average deviation of the improved MTSM model is reduced by 3.44 × 10 –4, the interquartile range of the distribution of absolute relative deviation decreased by 0.26%, and the average absolute relative deviation is reduced by 0.30%, compared to the original MTSM model, overall. This study improved viscosity data and an improved predictive approach for ethyl octanoate + n -alcohol mixtures.
