A Network Analysis of the Relationship Between Interpersonal Mindfulness, Emotion Regulation, and Emotional Divorce Among Iranian Couples

Family continuity depends on interpersonal mindfulness. This study examined the link between interpersonal mindfulness and emotional divorce, mediated by emotion regulation, using network analysis. In a descriptive–correlational design, 448 married individuals in Tehran (2024) were selected via convenience sampling. Instruments included Gottman’s Emotional Divorce Questionnaire, Gross and John’s Emotion Regulation Questionnaire, and Corey et al.’s Interpersonal Mindfulness Questionnaire. Structural equation modeling and network analysis showed interpersonal mindfulness reduces emotional divorce directly and indirectly through expressive suppression and cognitive reappraisal. Emotion regulation was a key bridging factor. Thus, strengthening interpersonal mindfulness and emotion regulation may effectively reduce emotional divorce among couples.
