Two-Step Speed-Adapting Strategy for Electrochemical Performance Enhancement of LiNi 0.8 Co 0.1 Mn 0.1 O 2 Materials in a Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor via Coprecipitation
A two-step speed-adapting strategy is developed to improve the hierarchical hydroxide precursors for synthesizing LiNi 0.8 Co 0.1 Mn 0.1 O 2 cathode materials via coprecipitation. The cathode materials synthesized from the precursors prepared by a two-step speed-adapting strategy, starting with a short violent agitation of 800 rpm followed by a long-term gentle stirring of 400 rpm, exhibit excellent electrochemical performances in terms of a high specific capacity of 219.5 mAh g –1 at 0.1C and a high rate capability of 167.6 mAh g –1 at 10C. Compared to a single rotation speed, a two-step speed effectively improves the specific capacity of the final cathode material above 22% compared to 400 rpm and 6% compared to 800 rpm at 1C, because it matches well with the growth of precursors in different stages, which benefits the formation of spherical agglomerates at a high-speed rotation stage and the layered growth of primary grains at a low-speed rotation stage.
