First Case of a Reversal Broadbrow Flounder Crossorhombus valderostratus From Taiwan (Pleuronectiformes: Bothidae)

ABSTRACT A dextral (reversed eye) specimen of Crossorhombus valderostratus (Alcock, 1890) was discovered from Ke‐Tzu‐Liao fishing port, southwest Taiwan, which represents the first reversal record of the species and genus. The present discovery adds Crossorhombus to the limited list of bothid genera exhibiting eye reversal, following earlier accounts of Chascanopsetta and Parabothus . Based on only a single specimen in each case, the sporadic nature of these findings across diverse genera suggests that such developmental anomalies remain an infrequent phenomenon in wild populations. A detailed description is provided for the specimen, compared to the normal individuals found in the same area.
