Impact of Ionised Species on Antioxidant Enhancement in Fabaceae Plants

ABSTRACT The Fabaceae family is the second largest plant family and is distributed across a variety of ecosystems. This study explores the use of pulsed‐discharge plasma as a seed pre‐treatment for green gram ( Vigna radiata ) and fenugreek ( Trigonella foenum‐graecum ), with a focus on their germination and antioxidant activity. Seeds were subjected to plasma for varying durations using a multiple pin reactor powered by high‐voltage pulses (18 kV, 80 Hz). Optimal germination rates were observed at 4 min for green gram and 20 s for fenugreek. Morphological changes were analysed using SEM and FT‐IR. Additionally, antioxidant activity was evaluated using DPPH assays, along with assessments of total phenolic content and total antioxidant capacity, alongside phytochemical screening and nutritional analyses.
