Bimetallic hydroxyapatite catalysts for enhanced hydrogen production via NaBH 4 methanolysis

This study quantifies the catalytic efficiency of hydrogen generation from NaBH4 by integrating methanolysis with a cost-effective bimetallic hydroxyapatite catalyst system. A series of Co-Ni/HAP catalysts with varying metal ratios were synthesized to optimize hydrogen-release kinetics. Among the tested compositions, the Co:Ni (3:1) catalyst exhibited the highest activity, achieving a low activation energy of 17.87 kJ/mol. The corresponding hydrogen-generation rate per gram of metal catalyst reached 18,291 mL·g−1cat·min−1 , surpassing the performance of previously reported catalyst systems. The findings validate that the synergistic effect of Ni and Co, which offers an economical pathway for efficient hydrogen production.
