OUXSPACE-TERRA VIS Slow-Light Materials
Transparent materials slow light because the electromagnetic phase is translated through a material response rather than moving through empty space. Ordinary refractive delay is limited by the phase refractive index n, which in low-loss visible materials is usually modest. Large delay in a short device therefore requires engineered group index ng rather than merely a very high bulk n. This preprint integrates the OUXSPACE TERRA/I-Z operator language with a compact slow-light material concept named OUX-VIS-SLOW-650. The proposed material is a visible-band photonic-crystal / waveguide layer based on a TiO2-rich or TiO2/Si3N4 high-index transparent core, 200-240 nm nanoscale periodic routing, and adiabatic input/output tapers. The first target is a 650 nm red-light device with ng approximately 150-300, producing approximately 10 ns delay in 1-2 cm if fabrication loss is controlled. This delay corresponds to roughly 3.00 m of free-space optical path, or about 2.04 m of standard optical fiber path at n about 1.47, compressed into centimeter scale. The same framework is then extended to optical paradoxes: transparent delay without absorption, high refractive response versus loss, slow light versus bandwidth, and compact real-time wavefront processing.
