Study on the Aging Mechanism of Wall Cloth During the Use Stage

To systematically investigate the aging mechanisms of wall cloth during service, comparative experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of temperature, humidity, light exposure, and their combinations on properties including color difference, tensile strength, water/oil repellency, flame retardancy, morphology, and secondary structure. Results demonstrated that ambient temperature and light exposure, particularly under 150°C and ultraviolet radiation, were the predominant factors accelerating performance degradation. Increasing temperature or radiation intensity and prolonged exposure intensified these changes. Humidity exhibited only a minor influence, and its effect diminishes at higher temperatures: lower temperatures amplify the impact of humidity, while higher temperatures reduce it. Additionally, dark-colored (blue) wall cloth consistently showed significantly greater aging than light-colored (ivory) samples, indicating that degradation correlates not only with service conditions but also with the material’s intrinsic color. This study elucidates the relationship between environmental factors and wall cloth deterioration, provides insight into aging mechanisms during use, and offers practical guidance for consumer selection and application of wall cloth in everyday environments.
