De-novo transcriptome sequencing and annotation of midgut gland tissue from edible crab (Cancer pagurus) and clawed lobsters (Homarus americanus, H. gammarus)
Decapod crustaceans synthesize a variety of digestive enzymes. These include various hydrolases and highly active and stable endopeptidases, which have high potential for biotechnological applications. Besides biochemical investigations, knowledge about the amino acid sequence can provide crucial information about the molecular structure and catalytic properties of these enzymes. Therefore, transcripts of the midgut glands of three large decapod species (crab and lobster) were created and will serve as a molecular library for future comparative and applied studies on the gastric enzymes.
