Information Invariance: Primitive Information and the Unfolding of Paths
All theories presuppose the existence of a path. Complexity theory assumes a search space, physics assumes initial conditions, and information theory takes the existence of information for granted. But where do paths come from? This paper addresses this question. Tracing any path for dt > 0 back to its absolute limit leads to the primitive information I_0 at the boundary where dt = 0. The boundary dt = 0 is a non-dynamical bifurcation point where dissipation and divergence intersect, and where information is preserved invariantly. Paths are not generated from I_0; rather, they are the unfolding of I_0. This is the Information Invariance Theorem. Subsequently, we discuss the implications of this structure on the asymmetry between generation and verification, as well as the structural presuppositions of complexity theory.
