Preparation and Evaluation of Rabbit Hair Fibers/Cotton Blended Yarns with Different Blend Ratios and Spinning Methods

A variety of rabbit hair/cotton blended yarns were developed using ring spinning, core-spun spinning (based on the roving process), and Siro spinning to improve the spinnability of rabbit hair fibers. In addition, the properties of rabbit hair/cotton blended yarns were compared under different blending ratios. Two‑way ANOVA was employed to evaluate the main effects of spinning methods and blending ratios, as well as their interaction. The results show that both factors significantly affect yarn strength, yarn evenness, thick places (+50%), neps, and hairiness, with blending ratios explaining the largest proportion of variance (η2 up to 0.516). For strength, core‑spun yarns exhibited the highest values, and the rabbit hair/cotton 20/80 blended yarns gave the best strength. For evenness and thick places, ring‑spun and core‑spun yarns performed similarly and were superior to Siro‑spun yarns; the rabbit hair/cotton 20/80 blended yarns significantly reduced CV% and thick places. For hairiness, short hairiness was lowest in core‑spun yarns, while long hairiness was primarily determined by the blending ratios. The significant interactions indicated that the effect of blending ratios depends on the spinning methods. This study provided a statistical foundation for optimizing rabbit hair/cotton blended yarns and offers insights into high‑value products from rabbit hair fibers.
