Integrating Ethnic, Cultural, and Identity Studies with Translanguaging Juntos to Cultivate Critical Outlooks in Dual-Language Bilingual Education
Grounded in the sociopolitical context of New Mexico and the Martinez/Yazzie ruling, the study explores how translanguaging can be intentionally integrated to center explorations of ethnicity, culture, identity, and language in ways that foster critical dispositions withing a DLBE context. Through a self-study professional learning experience and classroom enactment, this work aims to disrupt monolingual and hegemonic curricular norms, centers subaltern life-world knowledges, and advances culturally and linguistically relevant praxis aligned with educational justice mandates.
