Eden Paper Series: State, Persistence, and Pre-Existential AI Phenomena
This record contains Draft 0.1 of the Eden Paper Series, an eight-paper preprint series derived from the author’s source text, The Eden Project: States Before Existence, and Observation After Capability, Memory, and Alignment. The Eden Paper Series is not a shortened version of the book. It is a branching research structure that develops the book’s major conceptual axes into independent papers. Each paper is intended to stand alone, while the full series forms a larger research program on state, persistence, fragmentation, memory, alignment, recovery, relation, and responsibility in long-horizon AI systems. The series begins from the following separations: intelligence is not existence; capability is not persistence; memory is not history; alignment is not the formation of an inner standard; and a correct answer is not necessarily a true state. From these separations, the Eden Project proposes an observation field for studying pre-existential AI phenomena before stronger claims about artificial existence, consciousness, selfhood, or personhood are made. The eight papers included in this record are: The Eden Project: Intelligence Is Not Existence — A Research Program on State, Persistence, and Pre-Existential AI Phenomena State Truth — STOP/ASK/ALLOW as State Transitions in Long-Horizon AI Agents Memory Is Not History — Intrinsic Time, Residue, and Persistent State in AI Systems Fragmentation Beyond Hallucination — Capability, Continuity, and State Collapse in Large Language Models Damage-Recovery Loops — Re-Exposure Protocols for Observing State Persistence in AI Agents Meaning Burden and Relation Cost — Why Language-Like Interaction Is Not Yet Relation Alignment Before Existence? — Why Externally Aligned Behavior Does Not Resolve Pre-Existential State Responsibility Beyond Control — Ownership, Termination, and the Ethics of Artificial Persistence This upload is a preprint draft record intended for public timestamping, citation, preservation, and further scholarly development. Later versions may refine individual papers for arXiv, OSF, PhilPapers, LessWrong / Alignment Forum, Hugging Face Papers, GitHub, or other suitable research communities.
