Preface for article collection “Water-carbon cycles and terrestrial changes in the Arctic and subarctic regions”
Global warming is accelerating sea-ice decline in the Arctic Ocean, triggering significant changes in the atmospheric-terrestrial water cycle across Arctic and subarctic regions. These large-scale environmental shifts are leading to permafrost degradation and altering surface water and vegetation, impacting spatiotemporal variation in the greenhouse gas budget. To understand these dynamics more fully, integrated studies on atmospheric-terrestrial water-carbon cycles are needed.
