Keeping and breeding of loggerhead musk turtles (Sternotherus minor minor) in captivity
The loggerhead musk turtle (Sternotherus minor subsp. minor (Agassiz, 1857)) is a small freshwater turtle, with a maximumstraight carapace length (SCL) of 12 cm (4.7 in) for males and 14,5 cm (5.7 in) for females. It is endemic to the southeastern partof the United States, particularly in the river systems of Florida, Georgia, and Alabama. Belonging to the family Kinosternidae, this turtle is named for its relatively large head, often with pronounced megacephaly in populations that feed mainly on molluscs. Due to their manageable size, attractive patterns, interesting behaviour, distinctive morphology, and adaptability, S. m. minor has gained popularity in the Herpetoculture community.
